#RunningTo Week 38 in Review: Signal Mountain, TN & Stone Mountain, GA

It was a tale of two mountains in Week 38 of #RunningTo. First, Signal Mountain in Tennessee; then, Stone Mountain in Georgia. I blogged about the former adventure of a Valentine’s Day hike with my brother. I posted many pictures in that post, including the mile-long romantic/tragic trail of rock-graffiti.

All in all a very lovely Valentine’s Day, indeed.

Stone Mountain is a place I’ve visited many times as a kid, so I wasn’t necessarily eager to return. But then I considered hiking up the mountain rather than riding the monorail like every other time. I semi-spontaneously opted for the wintery hike, and I’m so glad I did. The winter wonderland I found along the way and atop the summit were spectacular sights to behold.

Check out my favorite moments from the wandering week that was! And stay tuned this week for my “final” post before #RunningTo . . . runs out.

Focus more on the river than the sign.

My brother’s a pretty decent photographer. This was all him.

Stone Mountain was quite NARNIAN this day.

Nobody was riding the Stone Mountain monorail, but it was fun to watch empty carriages go up and down.

I SEE NOW.

Like walking the surface of a frozen moon.

Whether it was the hiking up or the icy conditions, Stone Mountain just looked more beautiful this time.

Ever been to Signal Mountain or Stone Mountain? What’d you think? What’s your favorite mountainous overlook?

I like the icicles off the telescope. Those are all pretty amazing shots. Kudos to your brother! (And to you as well if you took some of those)

It feels odd to only be joining the journey as you prepare to end it! Like I missed the whole thing. But then, I guess I just get to come along on what’s next from Day 1, right? 🙂

I’ve never been to these mountains, but living in PA we have no shortage of mountains around here. I think my favorite mountain views come from very different places. One would be Hawaii, looking out over the lush green untouched valleys as though it was a glimpse at God’s original designs before we cut it down and paved over. The other, oddly, is a tie between the view of Montreal Canada and my hometown of Pittsburgh. Both cities are in a valley of sorts, and there are overlooks that let you see across the cities from a natural lookout. It’s amazing to stand there and survey the human race and buildings and bustle and feel like it’s so big but so small.

I’m looking forward to reading the “final” (which I guess doesn’t mean FINAL final) Running post later in the week! Do you think you’ll start a new series after that, or will it be just a day-to-day thing for the blog?
